The CEO is responsible to the Board of Directors for conducting the affairs of the association effectively. The President & CEO recommends and participates in the association's mission, goals, objectives, and related policies. Within this framework, the CEO plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the staff, programs, and activities of the association. The CEO's responsibilities include establishing administrative policies and procedures for association office functions, organizing the association and related staffing structure, recruiting, hiring, training, promoting, and terminating staff, and administering an effective personnel program. Additionally, the CEO is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing membership promotion and retention programs, maintaining the association, and developing and maintaining publications that are responsive to member needs. The CEO must also conduct the research necessary for the association and maintain effective internal and external public relations. Other responsibilities of the CEO include serving as the spokesperson for the association managing the finances of the association within the approved budget, ensuring the legal integrity of the association, executing all decisions of the Board of Directors, and coordinating and attending meetings of the Board of Directors and the elected officials of the association. The CEO must also monitor and assist elected officials and association committees and provide periodic reports and recommendations to the Association Chairman, officers, and directors. Internal relationships of the CEO include regular contact with the Board of Directors and its committees on policy matters and other issues as appropriate.
