Energy efficiency and sustainable home features may have seemed trendy a couple of decades ago, but now they’re becoming must-haves for today’s buyers. Two REALTORS® who have built their businesses in green real estate—Jan Green, SFR, GREEN, an EcoBroker in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Christopher Matos-Rogers, AHWD, GREEN, founder of the sustainability-focused Matos-Rogers Group in Atlanta—share steps they took to break into the sustainability market, how green homes are changing and what other pros need to know about rising demand for these properties.

Jan Green

Green, a real estate pro since 2002, began to focus on energy efficiency in 2008, when she became an EcoBroker and earned NAR’s GREEN designation. Green is a past committee chair for the residential committee of the Arizona chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, a past advisory board member for Efficiency First Arizona and a past director of the Scottsdale Area Association of REALTORS®, creating the first sustainability committee in Maricopa County. She currently serves as president of the Sustainability Advisors Corporation.

Christopher Matos-Rogers

Matos-Rogers is the founder of a sustainability-focused team, Matos-Rogers Group. In 2018, he was tapped to lead and create an all-new sustainability committee at the Atlanta REALTORS® Association. In this role, he led a team that collaboratively worked with nonprofits, local governments and businesses in the sustainability space to connect and educate REALTORS® in this rapidly growing sector. His leadership experience has since included involvement in NAR’s Sustainability Advisory Group, graduation from Leadership DeKalb in 2019, and multiple awards for leading progress in the REALTOR® organization.
